Rehabilitating houses helps builds community
If you know the price of everything and the value of nothing, then maybe rehabilitation and preservation are crazy. But if you value sustainability, preservation and rehabbing so that high-quality homes are available for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who then build community, you recognize as priceless the return on investment from nurturing your available assets.
I am delighted that my tax dollars are used for recycling, reusing and maintaining the unique housing of Buffalo. Those of low to moderate income deserve the opportunity to become homeowners in urban settings.
The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency’s rehabilitation program may need some improvement, but does not need scorn and outrage. City of Buffalo neighborhoods deserve a housing program that is environmentally friendly and preserves the unique, historic characteristics of our city communities.
Buffalo has had enough of demolition-crazy urban destruction and is worthy of a rebuilding policy that embraces green preservation.
