Shoplifting suspect ends up being held on manslaughter warrant

A man arrested for shoplifting from a Portage Road supermarket in Niagara Falls Wednesday afternoon initially gave police a false name. They later found out why: he was wanted on a manslaughter charge.

Police said they were called to the Tops market just after 1 p.m., where a man was being held for trying to steal groceries. The suspect told police his name and was booked under that identity. But police later were notified that the man's fingerprints did not match anyone by that name. Instead they matched those of a man being sought on a manslaughter warrant from the Bronx.

Steven E. McMillan, 48, no address given, was being held to be picked up by New York City authorities in connection with that warrant, police said.
