Fire rips through Sherman Street home

Fire destroyed a home on Sherman Street Saturday afternoon.

Buffalo firefighters were called at 12:17 p.m. to extinguish a fire at a 1-1/2 story house at 353 Sherman, which runs between Sycamore Street and Broadway on the city's East Side.

The blaze caused an estimated $72,000 damage to the building and $25,000 to its contents, fire officials said. The cause is under investigation.

No injuries were reported, but the Red Cross was called to assist one person displaced by the fire.
