Father punched after intervening to stop attack on woman

A man dropping his son off at H.J. Kalfas Elementary Magnet School in Niagara Falls Friday morning was attacked and beaten after he tried to intervene on behalf of a woman being chased through the school parking lot by a man.

Police said that the victim pulled into the lot of the Beech Avenue school at around 8:45 a.m. and saw a man chasing a woman through the lot. He told police he saw the man grab the woman, at which point he told the suspect to leave her alone. The woman then fled toward the school.

The man told police that he feared being attacked by the suspect, so he grabbed a baseball bat from his car as he escorted his son into the building. He said that the suspect did, indeed, confront him, punching him in the face and knocking him to the ground. The man kicked him while he was on the ground and then continued to punch him.

Another man broke up the fight and the victim ran for his car, but the suspect caught up to him and assaulted him again, police said before escaping. The victim was not seriously injured.
