Copper wire theft knocked Lewiston police department off the air

An overnight theft of copper telephone line was the reason phone communications were temporarily off the air recently at the Lewiston Police Department.

Sometime overnight between April 17 and 18, someone cut and removed about 60 feet of copper phone wire from two Verizon poles in the 4000 block of Creek Road, police said. The stolen wire was valued at $2,000.
