Tonawanda man who drove stolen pickup into creek admits to three felonies

A City of Tonawanda man, who stole his girlfriend's pickup truck in North Tonawanda and drove it into Ellicott Creek Jan. 27, pleaded guilty to three felonies this week.

Benjamin F. Stanley, 43, of Highland Avenue, admitted to fourth-degree grand larceny for the truck theft, as well as two other crimes against the woman: third-degree burglary Dec. 18 and first-degree criminal contempt for violating a restraining order Jan. 1.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon set sentencing for June 27. Stanley faces up to 15 years in prison. He also is awaiting sentencing for a felony in Erie County, Assistant District Attorney Peter M. Wydysh said.

Witnesses told police that Stanley aimed the Chevy Silverado toward the water on Ellicott Creek Road and left the engine running as he walked away.
