The Sabres are hoping to land a key defenseman from Sweden on Saturday night if they win the NHL Draft Lottery and the right to select Rasmus Dahlin. They may have landed another Swedish blueliner already.
According to a report by Alexander Nilsson in Hockeypuls.se, Buffalo is finalizing an agreement with 22-year-old Lawrence Pilut. The 5-foot-10, 183-pounder led HV71 Jonkoping in scoring this season with 38 points in 52 games in the Swedish Elite League. He had eight goals and 30 assists while posting a plus-13 rating.
It was a breakout season for Pilut in his fifth year with the club. He had not registered more than 12 points in any of his previous four years but was a key member last year as HV71 won the league's playoff championship. He had two goals and three assists while playing all 16 postseason games.
Meanwhile, Jacob Josefson is returning to Sweden after an injury plagued season with Buffalo. He has signed a four-year deal with Djurgarden. Josefson had two goals and two assists in 39 games and also added a shootout-winning goal in a March win at Ottawa.
