Wegmans will finally unveil its two-story megastore at the Natick Mall in Natick, Mass., Sunday.
The store will have three "firsts" for the Rochester-based grocer:
- It's the first Wegmans with shopping on two levels. Many of its stores have mezzanine-level seating, but not grocery departments on a second floor.
- It's the first store to feature Wegmans' new restaurant concept, Blue Dalia Restaurant & Tequila Bar, serving Mexican food, craft cocktails and made-to-order salsa. The 146,500-square-foot store also will feature Wegmans' Burger Bar concept, a casual restaurant that serves burgers, sandwiches and salads.
- It's also one of the first Wegmans stores to have a "cart escalator" to carry carts between the first and second levels. Carts automatically lock into place on an escalator track when pushed through safety doors and into an escalator queue. The shopper usually travels on a traditional escalator beside it.
Wegmans first entered New England in 2011. This is its sixth in the region. Wegmans plans to open a location in Chantilly, Va., in June and one in Lancaster, Pa., later this year.
