Troopers: Amity man arrested for shooting dog 'for no legitimate purpose'

An Amity man was charged with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals for shooting a dog "for no legitimate purpose with a firearm," State Police said in a statement.

Marvin L. Wells, 64, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The dog was shot on Saturday on Stryker Road. Authorities have not been able to determine who the dog belonged to. It was at Wellsville Veterinary Hospital Thursday where it is recovering from its injuries.

Wells was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Amity Court on May 2.

No other details were immediately available.
