Alton Brown: 'If you want great Buffalo chicken wings, don't go to frickin' Buffalo'

Uh oh.

Outspoken "Iron Chef America" host Alton Brown's comments on a YouTube video will likely incite anger from local wing fanatics.

On "First We Feast," a YouTube food series on a channel with more than three million followers, Brown delivered controversial words in his conversation with host Sean Evans.

"If you want great Buffalo chicken wings, don't go to frickin' Buffalo," the Food Network celebrity uttered. For context, the quote stemmed from a discussion about how once a region becomes known for a certain food, it tends to rest on its laurels.

Brown's last visit to Buffalo was for a performance last November in the UB Center for the Arts. While he stopped by a few other local restaurants during the day and filmed a segment about beef on weck, he crowd-sourced his wing destination for post-show munching, and, from the responses, chose East Aurora's Bar Bill Tavern.

Alton Tracker: Where did Brown eat and drink in Buffalo?

While this is the first we've heard of any negative comments from Brown in regard to Buffalo's wings, he is known for not mincing his words.

Brown sealed the discussion with a guilty admission, however.

"There you go. I'll never be able to play Buffalo again," he said, perhaps embellishing, perhaps not. "Remove it from my list."
