Six years is prison term for Lockport burglary try

Hugh R. Jackson, found guilty of trying to break into a Town of Lockport home last year by cutting the screen out of a sliding deck door, was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison.

Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III imposed the sentence. A jury convicted Jackson March 5 of attempted second-degree burglary and three lesser charges.

Jackson, 62, of Main Street, Gasport, ran when confronted by the owner of the Locust Street Extension home about noon on May 19. He was captured about an hour later in an area of brush where he had been drinking beer after riding his bicycle into the neighborhood.

Assistant District Attorney Kevin D. Canali said Jackson has a violent felony record and has spent about 25 of the last 30 years in prison.
