Niagara County Health Department officials hope at least 800 people will stop by a North Tonawanda fire hall between 10 a.m. and noon Thursday to take part in a mass vaccination drill.
Health professionals will simulate hepatitis A vaccinations during the practice session at Gratwick Hose Company, 110 Ward Road.
Elise Pignataro of the Health Department said the purpose is to find out how long it would take to administer a large number of shots in an emergency. She said participants will be screened and if it's determined they would need a vaccination, a worker will plunge a needle into an orange.
The whole process should take no more than 15 minutes, Pignataro said. All participants will be offered a free bowl of chowder for taking part.
