Chad Lapa of Rochester will be the featured speaker at the Niagara Musky Association’s monthly meeting set for May 1 at the Eldredge Club, 17 Broad St., Tonawanda starting at 7 p.m. Lapa’s talk will be themed “Three Small Observations of BIG Muskies.”
Lapa has set the bar on big muskies the last two years as far as Muskies, Inc. is concerned. The national organization has a contest for the biggest musky caught in the country, with the prize being a free replica mount of the fish. In 2016, he caught a 57-inch fish to win the prize. Last year he caught a 58-inch fish to take top honors. Since he won the top prize both years, the group has since instituted a rule that only allows one prize per person ever. Last year, Lapa caught (and released) 6 fish over 50 inches long, and that was with his boat breaking down on Oct. 23, the best time of year for lunker 'lunges. His bigger fish come from the St. Lawrence River. Find out more Tuesday night. The meeting is open to the public.
