It's wise to remove all valuables from your car before taking it in for service.
But a Buffalo man who allegedly neglected that advice was arraigned Tuesday in Niagara County Court on a felony indictment.
Shane T. Castro, 24, of Andover Avenue, brought his car to Ontario Auto Sales on South Transit Road in Lockport for service Nov. 1, Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said. Hoffmann said a mechanic called police after he found an unregistered handgun under the hood of the car.
Castro pleaded not guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The maximum penalty is 15 years in prison.
Judge Sara Sheldon allowed Castro to remain free on a $2,500 bail bond.
