Patriots tight end and Western New York native Rob Gronkowski announced on Instagram on Tuesday night that he will be returning for the 2018 season.
Gronkowski and agent Drew Rosenhaus met with Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
Gronkowski's plans have been the subject of much speculation since his comments after the Patriots' loss to the Eagles in the Super Bowl. "I'm definitely going to look at my future, for sure," he said. "Sit down in the next couple weeks and see where I'm at."
Gronkowski's 7,179 receiving yards rank 11th among tight ends in NFL history, but he leads the position in yards per game (70.4) by nearly 10 full yards and has a higher per-game average than Randy Moss (70.1). Only 25 players in history with at least 16 games played have averaged more than 70 yards per game.
He turns 29 in May, but has had several injury setbacks in recent years.
