Man who stole from business faces prison after failing to pay restitution

Daniel E. Wells, who stole $16,593 worth of metal objects from a Royalton business in 2011, may be headed for state prison after admitting Monday that he failed to pay restitution.

Wells, 28, of Ridge Road, Hartland, was placed on probation in March 2015 for the thefts from A Superior Concrete. He told Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III Monday that he didn't pay restitution or his court-ordered fees and surcharges.

Another probation violation count against Wells was his recent conviction for driving while impaired by drugs in the Orleans County Town of Ridgeway, where he was arrested in November.

Murphy jailed Wells without bail to await sentencing for fourth-degree grand larceny July 2. The maximum sentence is four years in prison.
