Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer Jim Kelly is heading back to Buffalo on Wednesday to continue his recuperation following upper jaw reconstruction related to oral cancer. A photo on his Instagram account Tuesday showed Kelly, with the help of a cane, walking in Central Park.
Kelly was released from Mount Sinai West Hospital on April 14, 17 days after undergoing the 12-hour surgery.
Dr. Mark Urken, head and neck surgeon at Mount Sinai West who performed the procedure, said Kelly left the hospital "after an extremely favorable recovery."
"The speed of that process, considering the extensive nature of his surgery, was a function of his toughness, the firmness of his resolve, his faith and the support of his family," Urken said in a statement. "All of those factors will continue to serve him well as he moves on to the next phase of his rehabilitation.”
Jill Kelly has posted photos since Kelly left the hospital of his ongoing rehabilitation.
