The eighth Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge will kick off on Monday and include a weekly fitness class at New Era Field, weather permitting.
A grand prize winner also will win $5,000.
The challenge is open to all adults in New York State. Participants earn points by achieving three daily goals:
- 20 minutes of physical activity.
- Eating five servings of fruits and vegetables.
- Drinking eight glasses of water.
The challenge was designed as a way to help motivate people to bring more physical activity and good nutrition into their daily lives by offering them opportunities to win prizes. The first challenge, launched in October 2014, drew 2,300 participants.
Since then, six more rounds of the Challenge have been held, with participation steadily increasing each round, bringing the total number of registrants to more than 21,000.
Those interested in joining the Health & Wellness Challenge for the first time can sign up at buffalobills.com/thechallenge. Participants are encouraged to attend Monday Night Fitness, a free fitness class on the field at New Era Field every Monday evening throughout the six-week initiative, which runs through June 3.
Participants can also complete one “extra points” challenge each day. As an added bonus, participants who refer their friends, family and co-workers can earn 10 extra points for each person who registers.
Those who report meeting goals will be eligible to win daily prizes, including autographed Bills memorabilia and fitness trackers, as well as a weekly $500 cash prize.
According to a survey of participants after the fall 2017 challenge, 95 percent of those who responded said the challenge was a good reminder to eat healthy, drink more water and exercise, and provided the motivation to do so.
