New canine addition to Sheriff's Office is named 'Chief'

Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour has announced that the new addition to the Sheriff’s Office Canine Team has been named “Chief” in honor of Chief Craig C. Harmon, head of the Niagara County Drug Task Force when he passed away in 2004.

“Chief” is in training with handler Deputy Richard Bull and was purchased through many generous donations and funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  A brief naming ceremony was held on April 6, the 14th anniversary of Chief Harmon’s passing, with Chief Harmon’s immediate family present.

The 14-month-old male Belgian Malinois is being trained to work in the Sheriff’s Office in patrol and narcotics detection and is expected to be ready for duty in June 2018.
