Letter: Study of Bird Island repairs should not cost half a million

Study of Bird Island repairs should not cost half a million

The Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Buffalo are going to team up on a $500,000 study to determine how to shore up the side of Bird Island. I sincerely hope that total is a joke! One can get an idea what needs to be done just by looking at the picture that was in The Buffalo News. A good reinforcement of the current wall or a complete rebuild should be obvious.

Why would such an outrageous amount of money be needed for a study? The personnel involved in this project receive their salaries from the U.S. and the city, respectively. I would think $5,000 would cover the cost of the study. Well, maybe that’s too small of an amount, since there will be great need for a lot of paper and ink. Maybe $50,000 will be needed. At any rate, $500,000 is totally absurd!
