History Center of Niagara hosts suffrage movement talk

Local history professor Shannon Risk will discuss the obstacles Western New York women faced in the suffrage movement in a free program at 2 p.m. Thursday at the History Center of Niagara, 215 Niagara St., Lockport.

Risk is an associate professor of history at Niagara University. She will discuss that while the suffrage movement was being fiercely pushed forward across the country in the 1850s and ‘60s, local women weren’t fighting for the right to vote until the early 1900s – and why.

The public is invited.
