The 13th annual Colvin Cleaners Gowns for Prom program distributed a record 877 gowns and nearly 1,000 pieces of handmade jewelry to high school students from throughout Western New York over three days this past week at Shea's Buffalo Theatre.
Young women selected from several thousand new and gently used gowns to wear to their own proms. Dresses were fitted by a professional seamstress, altered, dry cleaned and then delivered for free by Colvin Cleaners.
Cyndee Billoni, who founded the program with her husband, Paul, president and CEO of Colvin Cleaners, thanked the 125 volunteers who made the program work. Homemade jewelry was donated by Marlena Gagner, owner of Meraki Jewelry Design.
Allstate Insurance, which also sponsors the program, and Erie County DMV offices will continue to collect gowns and coats for the Coats for Kids program year round.
