Four people were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle collision in Corfu on Wednesday in which one of the drivers was charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
Jacob J. Szumigala of Oakfield was driving a Hyundai Sonata westbound on Route 33 around 5 p.m. when he struck a Honda Civic from behind at a high rate of speed, the Sheriff's Office said.
The collision caused the Honda to travel into the eastbound lane where it was struck by a pickup occupied by two people.
The driver of the Honda, James M. Hoskins of Corfu, as well as the occupants of the pickup, identified as Gerald D. Sanders and Lynn Sanders of Batavia, were taken to Erie County Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
Szumigala, who also was taken to ECMC with minor injuries, was charged with DWI and may face further charges pending the results of toxicology tests, the Sheriff's Office said.
