Spineless Collins is afraid to meet with constituents
It was disheartening to learn of millionaire Rep. Chris Collins’ decision not to attend a forum on gun violence organized by high school students planned for April 7. Was the congressman really so afraid of what these courageous teenagers have to say? Or perhaps he was just too busy counting his money or with keeping up his parroting of the talking points given to him by the NRA and the Trump White House.
Come to think of it, Collins never seems to attend any type of public forum where he has to face his constituents. In fact, he rarely speaks for himself and usually defers to a paid spokesman unless he’s in front of a CNN television camera.
His arrogance and the contempt he shows for those he is supposed to represent is disgusting. The voters of the 27th District and the students who organized the planned forum deserve better. These students just want to be heard and cannot understand what Collins is so afraid of.
President Harry Truman said it best when he said, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!” It’s time for the congressman to make his exit, and I hope that it is the newly registered young voters who make the difference in the coming November election.
