The death of a woman found Monday in a Town of Batavia motel is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were dispatched around noon to the Sunset Motel on West Main Street Road, just outside the Batavia city line, where they found the deceased woman in a room.
Suspicious of the circumstances around her death, authorities ordered an autopsy. The body was transferred to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office to determine a preliminary cause of death. The autopsy concluded that the cause of death was a homicide, attributed to "sharp force trauma to the carotid artery," the Genesee County Sheriff's Office revealed Tuesday.
Police have identified the woman, but have not yet publicly released it as authorities seek to locate the victim's next of kin.
