Consulate of India donates 1,000 books to public library

More than 1,000 books about India have been donated to the Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries by the Consulate General of India.

The India Collection includes more than 200 books written in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi and Urdu, the library announced Monday. The materials include the complete works of Mohandas K. Gandhi. Also donated are folklore and picture books on India’s culture and customs that will be housed in the Amherst Public Library at Audubon, Clarence Public Library and the downtown Central Library.

“We are very proud to donate this robust collection of books to the public libraries,” said Anthony S. Kulandairaj, India Association of Buffalo board member and project organizer.

The India Association will present a day of free family programming focusing on India’s arts, culture and cuisine at 11 a.m. May 12 in the Amherst library, 350 John James Audubon Parkway.
