Robert S. Byrne Sr., a Buffalo firefighter, died April 13 in Mercy Hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Byrne, of West Seneca, was born in Buffalo and graduated from Bishop Timon High School. He served in the Army in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
He worked as a firefighter for the City of Buffalo for 26 years, retiring in 1991 from the Ladder 1 firehouse.
"It's a job in which he had a lot of pride," said Bridget Leonard, a daughter.
Mr. Byrne enjoyed camping, traveling, and watching sports, especially football, hockey and NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Bridget Leonard, Kim Brown and Karen Kneeland; two sons, Robert and Gerald; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Catherine Schanne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17 at St. Martin of Tours Church, 1140 Abbott Road. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
