Weather spotter training sessions set in WNY

Are you a weather fanatic?

If you enjoy watching the weather, you can help the National Weather Service by being its eyes and ears on the ground. Training is coming up for those who would like to be an official Skywarn weather spotter.

Here are the upcoming sessions in Western New York:

  • 7 p.m. Friday at the Genesee County Fire Training Center, 7690 State Street Road, Batavia.
  • 7:30 p.m. April 23 at WCA Hospital, 207 Foote Ave., Jamestown.
  • 7 p.m. May 22 at the Cattaraugus County Building at 303 Court St., Little Valley.

Those attending will become part of a network of weather spotters for the weather service.

Weather service forecasters will detail the types of severe weather information the agency looks for from its spotters, and trainees are provided a toll-free, 24-hour access telephone number that reports directly to the weather service.
