Reinstein Woods hosts hikes and more for Earth Day week

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is commemorating the 48th anniversary of Earth Day with a week of special events, including several at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve & Environmental Education Center, 93 Honorine Drive, Depew. For classes requiring registration, call 716-683-5959.

There are two guided walks for adults on Wednesday: A Senior Stroll 10 a.m. to noon and a Night Hike from 7 to 9 p.m.; registration required. The After School Escape is 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. every Thursday for children in grades K-5 and adults; no registration required.

A guided Woods Walk to find spring flowers is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Also Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m., bring old T-shirts and plastic bags to learn how to make reusable shopping bags and holders for all your shopping needs. No registration necessary.

Adults and children age 8 and over can learn about birds of the wetlands in Birding 101 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Registration required
