Two people from Buffalo were arrested just after midnight Friday outside an auto parts store on Main Street in Newfane after Niagara County sheriff's deputies found a stolen handgun in their car, authorities said.
Amos L. Rowsey III, 36, and Shawneque L. Tubbins, 37, who also had a 2-year-old and 4-year-old in their car, told deputies they were out looking at a house to buy, the Sheriff's Office said.
The handgun was traced back to a home on Lake Road in Wilson. After receiving a call from deputies, the resident discovered his home had been burglarized sometime in the past week, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Rowsey was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Tubbins was charged with two counts of child endangerment and unlawful possession of marijuana. Rowsey was held on $25,000 bail, while bail for Tubbins was set at $500. The two children were placed in the custody of Erie County Child Protective Services.
