Water pressure to customers in eastern Niagara County and western Orleans County may drop Tuesday. A major transmission main will be shut down while a large new valve is installed at the corner of Bowmiller and Dysinger roads in the Town of Lockport.
"We did a test shutdown last week and no one noticed," said Jennifer H. Bieber, a Niagara County Water District director.
But this time the main may be closed for up to 24 hours, part of a pipeline project that has lasted several months.
If water is cloudy once full pressure is restored, customers should run their faucets until the water is clear. The cloudy water could be caused by air bubbles, but it would be safe to drink, the Niagara County Health Department said.
