The City of Niagara Falls issued a request for proposals Thursday for the vacant former Wendt's Dairy plant at Buffalo Avenue and 86th Street.
The milk processing plant shut down in 2008 after 60 years of operation. The building was acquired at auction by a Canadian company. But there was no redevelopment, and the city foreclosed last year because of unpaid taxes, said city Business Development Director Anthony Vilardo.
The main building covers 73,000 square feet with ceilings as high as 40 feet. A small lot on Troy Avenue behind the plant also is part of the offer. The deadline for proposals is July 13.
"One thing we try to be cognizant of is, that's in a residential neighborhood, and the people would be concerned about truck traffic," Vilardo said.
