Erie County Legislature approves 11 new DMV hires

The Erie County Legislature on Thursday approved 11 new positions in the Clerk's Office so that Auto Bureau services can be extended to Saturdays in the Northtowns Auto Bureau.

The bureau is located in the Sheridan Plaza at Sheridan Drive and Eggert Road. Currently, the only bureau providing Department of Motor Vehicles services on Saturday is the Depew/Cheektowaga location.

Clerk Michael P. Kearns said he's awaiting civil service test results and hopes to have new employees running the Northtowns Auto Bureau by May or June.

The cost will be $338,000 for this year. Investment account money had originally been earmarked to cover initial personnel costs, but after concerns were raised, Kearns agreed to pay for the recurring expense out of his Auto Bureau fees account. Kearns said the additional personnel costs will be covered by increased Auto Bureau revenue.
