[BN] Blitz newsletter: Bills to face Tyrod Taylor in preseason

The NFL released the preseason schedule Wednesday, and the highlight for the Bills was a game against Tyrod Taylor and the Cleveland Browns. The game will take place in Cleveland sometime between Aug. 16-19.

The Bills also will face the Panthers, whom coach Sean McDermott used to coach; the Bengals, who helped the Bills get into the playoffs; and the Bears.

The finale against Chicago marks a departure for the Bills, who traditionally end the preseason with the Lions. Former Bills owner Ralph Wilson resided near Detroit and kept good relations with the Lions. This will be the first time since 2001 that the Bills don't face the Lions in the preseason.

Fred Jackson looking to retire as a Bill: Fan-favorite running back Fred Jackson told The News that he is working on signing a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the Buffalo Bills. He chose not to play in the Spring League and is done chasing one shot at the NFL. For his post-career plans, he'd like to get into broadcasting.

NFL Network's Bucky Brooks says Sam Darnold, Josh Allen fit Bills' culture: "My sense in Buffalo is this is a team where culture is important," Brooks said Wednesday. "Whoever is the leader of the team needs to be a guy that is more of a blue-collar type, not necessarily a superstar but a guy who's kind of a man's man when it comes to his leadership qualities, his intangibles, his work ethic and the way he goes about his business." That idea led Brooks to two names: Darnold and Allen.

"The John Murphy Show" gets a new name: "The John Murphy Show" will become "One Bills Live" when Steve Tasker becomes a co-host on the team's radio program. The name is a play on the Bills' address, One Bills Drive.

Guess how many pre-McDermott players the Bills have left: After Richie Incognito's retirement (which the NFLPA confirmed Wednesday) the Bills are down to just 15 players who predated second-year coach Sean McDermott. Can you name them?

Three UB football players invited to Bills' workout for local prospects: Safety Ryan Williamson, offensive lineman David Goldsby and defensive end Demone Harris were among the Bulls who received invites to show the Bills what they can do.

Jim Kelly takes next step in cancer surgery recovery: "The TRACH is out," Kelly's wife, Jill, posted on Instagram. "... Your love and prayers have sustained, encouraged, and helped our family more than you will ever know."

Predraft visits: Bills are reportedly hosting USC pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu on pre-draft visit. Quarterback Baker Mayfield wrapped up his pre-draft visit Wednesday, and top linebacker Roquan Smith posted that he was in Buffalo, too.
