In Cheektowaga, new health care facility eyed for town intersection

A long vacant gas station at 3450 Union Road near Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga may be on the demolition block, said Cheektowaga officials Tuesday.

Developer Buffalo City Digs is seeking the demolition of the zombie station to construct a 3,200-square-foot medical facility.

Cheektowaga lawmakers agreed the busy intersection could use a makeover.

"That corner really needs something," Town Supervisor Diane Benczkowski said, during a work session that preceded the meeting.

The demolition would make way for Five Star Urgent Care, an outpatient treatment facility for patients with illnesses and injuries that aren't life-threatening.

One of the Town Board members hailed the construction of a medical facility as a positive addition.

"When did you see one of these go out of business?" asked Councilmember James Rogowski. "The green space will beautify the intersection."

A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. April 24 in Cheektowaga Town Hall, 3301 Broadway.
