A Town of Tonawanda man was charged Sunday morning with aggravated driving while intoxicated after being pulled over on Delaware Avenue in the Town of Tonawanda, Kenmore police said.
Jose Arias-Ahumada, 46, was pulled over in front of Len-Co Lumber, a few blocks south of Sheridan Drive, at about 4:45 a.m. after he was seen traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.
Arias-Ahumada "struck the curb violently" before he came to a stop, Kenmore police said in a news release. He accidentally pushed on the gas pedal and revved his engine until the officer told him to remove his foot from the accelerator, according to police.
Arias-Ahumada failed several field sobriety tests and registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.22 percent, nearly three times the legal limit, police said.
