What gunshots? Shell casings tell one story, residents tell another

Several people packing belongings into a car outside a Belden Place residence in Niagara Falls denied hearing gunshots Saturday morning, even though police located seven spent shell casings in the street directly in front of the home.

Police were called to the 3200 block of Belden Place at around 1 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots. Officers found several people on the scene who were packing suitcases into a car. All denied hearing any gunshots. Officers said that only one person interviewed was cooperative, the rest were not.

After that group left the area, police said, neighbors came forward to complain of suspected drug activity in the area. Some told police that they heard as many as six or seven gunshots, and a car speeding away from the scene, before officers arrived.

An investigation is continuing.
