Rare diseases need attention, too. That's the message of the folks organizing a fundraiser at the Polish Cadets for cancer patient, Robert Best. The poster for the event has a picture of a zebra -- an informal medical symbol for a rare disease.
Best, who was born in Alabama and grew up in Riverside, was diagnosed in February with a rare type of cancer, neuroendocrine carcinoma.
Organizers explain: "This benefit is being held by his family and friends in hopes of raising funds for his medical and living expenses so that he can focus on living with and recovering from this terrible nightmare."
This is a great chance to visit the Polish Cadets, a historic private Buffalo social club, for a good cause. There will be music and a D.J. There will be basket raffles and 50-50 raffles.
What: Benefit for Robert Best.
When: 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
Where: Polish Cadets, 927 Grant St.
Tickets: $20 includes food, draft beer, pop and coffee.
Info: John Carey, 418-2738; Gail Bud Reuther, 200-6348; Wendy Higgins, 875-3211.
