A Town of Lockport woman admitted in State Supreme Court Wednesday that she was drunk when she crashed her car in Wilson with her four children inside.
Brittany A. Tatu, 30, of Ruhlman Road, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving while intoxicated for the Aug. 12 wreck on Cambria-Wilson Road. The crash sent her and the children – ages 3, 5, 8 and 9 – to Buffalo hospitals.
Tatu said she downed "four shots" at 10 a.m. At 4:09 p.m., she drove off the road and rolled the car over several times. A blood test 90 minutes later showed an alcohol reading of 0.167 percent, more than twice the legal threshold for intoxication. She had no previous criminal record.
"In all probability, I'm going to place you on probation," said Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr., who scheduled sentencing for May 22. The maximum penalty is four years in prison.
