S.E.R.V. Niagara is seeking to expand its volunteer Board of Directors and standing committees with individuals who share the foundation's mission to support, empower and respect veterans and their families.
Since 2014, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit has been providing newly renovated, fully furnished, permanent housing for homeless and disabled veterans and families in Niagara County. The veteran-exclusive housing currently has properties located in Lockport, but S.E.R.V. Niagara plans to expand into North Tonawanda in coming months.
Additionally, S.E.R.V. Niagara offers a variety of services to veterans and families, including a therapeutic fishing program and financial counseling and workshops in partnership with Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union. It also delivers Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and gifts, and offers a number of other outreach programs and services.
S.E.R.V. Niagara is looking for board and committee applicants with experience in business, finances, education, employment, property management, construction, fundraising, grant research and writing, PTSD, re-integration, substance abuse, and other clinical expertise.
Board members are required to attend monthly board meetings and commit to 1 to 3 hours each week planning and implementing designated tasks. Board terms are one year, with the option of serving consecutive terms.
