The Section VI Class C and D boys basketball finals have become a victim of Mother Nature.
The games originally slated to be played Friday night at Jamestown Community College will now be played Saturday at JCC following the girls Section VI championship doubleheader.
The decision to reschedule the boys games was made around 11:15 p.m. Thursday night, according to Larry Jones -- the Section VI boys basketball chairman.
East will face defending champion Franklinville at 4 p.m. Saturday for the Class D title. At 6 p.m., Randolph takes on Tapestry for the Class C championship.
Randolph won the C-2 title last season, losing in the overall final to Chautauqua Lake. The Cardinals beat C-Lake Monday to advance to the final, while Tapestry took out Allegany-Limestone.
The Section VI girls finals tip-off the day long hoops-fest with Franklinville taking on three-time defending champion Panama at noon. The Class C final between Holland and Allegany-Limestone follows at 2 p.m.
The rescheduling of the boys Class C and D basketball finals means Saturday will be quite the busy day for Western New York's scholastic postseason participants.
At Buffalo State, the Section VI boys basketball finals resume with the first of two sessions beginning at noon. Health Sciences faces JFK in Class B-2. At 1:45 p.m., Olean battles Newfane for the B-1 championship. Niagara Falls versus Williamsville North for the Class AA title is at 3:30 p.m. The evening session at Buffalo State begins at 7 p.m. with the Class A-2 final (South Park vs. Lake Shore). The A-1 final between unbeaten West Seneca West and Williamsville South follows.
The New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association boys hockey quarterfinals are also on the docket. Section VI Division II champion West Seneca West faces Section V champion Canandaigua at 12:30 p.m. at HarborCenter. The Division I state quarterfinal pits Niagara Wheatfield against Section III champion Syracuse Corcoran at 7:30 p.m. at HarborCenter. Sweet Home hits the road for its state Division II quarterfinal hockey game as it faces Section VII champion Northeastern Clinton.
Section VI champions and others who hit qualifying standards return to the pool Friday to start two-day state swimming and diving championships at Nassau Aquatic Center.
The indoor state track and field championship meet is Saturday at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
Section VI looks to keep its dominance going at the state gymnastics meet, which is Saturday on Long Island. Section VI gymnasts placed first in each individual event last year as Section VI won the overall team title.
The state rifle tournament is at West Point.
In New York State Catholic High Schools Athletic Association Tournament competition, Manhattan Cup Class A champion Park School takes on St. Anthony's (L.I.) in the boys basketball semifinals. A Park win means it will get to play the state Catholic championship game next weekend in Western New York -- likely at Villa.
First-time Niagara Cup champion St. Mary's faces St. Anthony's in the state Catholic hockey final at Coney Island.
The Section VI girls basketball Class AA semifinal doubleheader starts at 5:30 p.m. at Kenmore West. The winners advance to Wednesday's title game at Buffalo State.
On Sunday, the Section VI girls basketball finals in Classes A-1, A-2, B-1 and B-2 are at Buffalo State.
