Sheriff's Office: Dunkirk man arrested in connection with use of checks

A Dunkirk man was arrested Thursday by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office after authorities said he allegedly used bank checks to pay himself $2,000, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office received a report Tuesday of the alleged incident at an address in the Town of Dunkirk, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said they determined that Michael Bobik, 28, of Bennett Road, had allegedly stolen bank checks, forged a signature on the checks and cashed the checks, for a total of $2,000, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Bobik was arrested and taken to Dunkirk Town Court, where he was arraigned on charges of second-degree forgery, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, fourth-degree grand larceny and petit larceny, the Sheriff's Office said.
