CANCELLATION – Because the threat of rain may close the rink at Canalside, Chris Jamele, executive director of the Western New York Chapter of the Parkinson’s Foundation, tells us the annual Parkinson’s Ice Skating Party scheduled for this evening has been postponed.

CHURCH NOTES – Orchard Park United Methodist Church, 3700 N. Buffalo St., Orchard Park, will host World Day of Prayer at 1 p.m. Friday for the churches of Orchard Park, Hamburg and West Seneca.
World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical movement of Christian women in more than 170 countries who observe a common day of prayer annually on the first Friday in March. Guest speaker will be Erie Community College professor Karen Wehn. All are welcome. For more info, visit wdp-usa.org.

Church Women United of Niagara and Vicinity will hold a Human Rights Celebration at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Mark Open Door Baptist Church, 2901 Highland Ave., Niagara Falls. Speaker is the pastor, Rev. CLEAR THE SHELVES – The Kenmore Mercy Hospital Auxiliary will start collecting books, CDs and DVDs in good condition Thursday for their sale in April. A collection bin will be stationed at the hospital’s main entrance throughout the month of March. No encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest condensed books or cassettes will be accepted.

BOTANICAL BEAUTIES – It’s the event that orchid lovers have been waiting for – the Niagara Frontier Orchid Society’s annual Spring Show in the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2665 South Park Ave. In addition to displays, there will be orchid vendors and growing demonstrations. It’s free with admission to the Gardens. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. For info, call 835-2132.
