Vigil Thursday in Buffalo for students who were victims of gun violence

A candlelight vigil will be held Thursday night at a church in downtown Buffalo to commemorate students who have been victims of gun violence.

The event, sponsored by groups including New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, the Western New York Peace Center, the Stop the Violence Coalition and the Buffalo Parent Teacher Organization, will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 139 Pearl St.

The event will include speakers from across the community, according to organizers. In addition to commemorating the victims of school shootings, including the recent shooting that killed 17 people in Parkland, Fla., the event will remember victims of daily gun violence in America, a number that averages about 93 people and includes an average of 10 children per day, according to New Yorkers Against Gun Violence.
