Sabres make Nelson, Baptiste eligible for AHL playoffs

When the Rochester Americans appear in the postseason, defenseman Casey Nelson and right wing Nick Baptiste will be on the ice.

American Hockey League rules state players must be on the roster at 3 p.m. today in order to be eligible to be sent down from the NHL for the rest of the year. Buffalo sent Nelson and Baptiste to the Amerks. They are likely just paper transactions, meaning the duo should be around for practice Tuesday.

The Amerks are tied for third in their division with a 27-15-14 record. The top four teams make the playoffs, and the fifth-place club (Laval) is 18 points behind Rochester.
