Outstanding women to be honored with roses in annual program

The ninth annual Roses for Outstanding Women awards program will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Central Library auditorium.

This year, 38 women will be honored for their contribution to the community and the city of Buffalo, making it the largest group of honorees since the program's inception.

Jennifer J. Parker of Jackson Parker Communications will be the keynote speaker. There also will be music and poetry in a program dedicated to recently-retired Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant, as well as to Joan Simmons for her contributions to First Shiloh Baptist Church. There also will be a tribute to McKinley High School Principal Crystal Boling-Barton for the school's annual Black History Conference.

The program, sponsored by retired educator Eva M. Doyle, is free but donations will be accepted.
