A 52-year-old man was charged with felony assault after beating his wife with a steel flashlight, police said.
Mark Evans of Orchard Park repeatedly hit his 53-year-old wife on her head and arms with a steel Maglite-style flashlight during a dispute at their home, a residential motel on Southwestern Boulevard, Orchard Park police said.
Police were called to the scene about 11:35 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, who was hit more than 10 times with the flashlight, had cuts on her head and an injured arm, police said. She was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition, according to police.
Evans was charged with second-degree assault. He was remanded to Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $2,500 bail when arraigned Sunday morning in Orchard Park Town Court. The court also issued an order of protection prohibiting Evans from contacting his wife.
There is also an outstanding warrant for Evans in connection with a domestic assault that occurred in the state of Maine in 2011, police said.
