Beauts' comeback beats Riveters on the road

The Buffalo Beauts have done nothing but win since their last loss On Dec. 10 to the first Metropolitan Riveters in the National Women's Hockey League.
None of the Beauts' eight straight wins, though, was as satisfying as Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Riveters at the RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark, N.J.
Not only did the Beauts have to encounter the league leader on the road, they had to overcome a 2-0 first period deficit and a 3-1 third-period hole.
They did by scoring three unanswered goals in the final period, capped by Kourtney Kunichika's game with 8:26 left.
After goals by Kelsey Koelzer (power play) and Rebecca Morse put the Riveters in front, Jess Jones scored unassisted for Buffalo at 10:30 of the second. Metro got that goal back, though, when Rebecca Russo scored on the power play at 2:00 of the third.
Hayley Scamurra began the Beauts' comeback at 6:59 with Maddie Elia getting the assist. Elia tied it with a power-play goal at 9:33 with assists from Kunichika and Taylor Accursi.

Buffalo goalie Amanda Leveille made 22 saves, 14 in the last two periods when Metro scored just once. Katie Fitzgerald of the Riveters had 14 stops.

The teams will meet again next Sunday afternoon, again in Newark. Buffalo is 10-4-0 with two games left on the regular season schedule. Metro is 12-2-0 with both losses to the Beauts.
