The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that reportedly occurred at about 3 p.m. Saturday on Route 20 in Irving on the Seneca Nation of Indians territory.
Deputies found a vehicle lodged beneath a trailer towed by a pickup when they arrived at the scene, according to a WBEN report. The driver of the trapped vehicle had to be extricated and reportedly was pronounced dead at the scene.
No details on the driver's identification have been released.
Both vehicles were traveling northbound on Route 20 at the time of the impact and the highway was closed in both directions for several hours afterward.
Local media reported that the driver of the pickup was taken to Lake Shore Hospital for evaluation.
