A Chester Avenue man told Town of Niagara police that most of his belongings were stolen recently while he served a six-month stint in jail. He suspects his ex-girlfriend, whom he had entrusted to look after his property.
The victim told police that when he went to jail in September, he gave the woman permission to sell some items to help pay the bills in his absence. He also entrusted her to look after his dog.
Upon his release, he learned that the dog had been sold and that the woman "took everything else." He furnished police with a lengthy list of missing property.
Police said on Jan. 20 a woman at the residence reported that 20 expensive knives were stolen, along with numerous items from the garage. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
